Ready For Anything Volunteers Poised to Support Emergency Evacuation in Boston
On Tuesday, 4th November, our Ready For Anything (RFA) Emergency Volunteers were placed on standby to support a police incident unfolding in Boston.
During redevelopment work in the town centre close to the Borough Council offices and the main police station a suspect device was discovered. Authorities quickly set up a 100-metre safety cordon and evacuated nearby residents and workers.
Ready to Respond
To prepare for a possible wider evacuation, two temporary Places of Safety were set up in the town centre. This required extra support, and for the first time since Storm Babet, a call went out to our trained RFA Emergency Volunteers. Using the Notify text alert system, volunteers who had completed Emergency Support Centre Training and were registered with the Resilience Forum received a message. This system allows our emergency planning team to reach many volunteers quickly and efficiently. Once responses are in, a follow-up email provides full details and instructions.
While the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team examined the device, our volunteers were ready to jump into action. Thankfully, the device turned out to be non-viable, and everyone was stood down without needing to deploy. Still, knowing that our volunteers were prepared to respond at a moment’s notice was incredibly reassuring. We’re so proud and grateful to have such a generous group of people willing to give their time to help others during emergencies. Your training, commitment, and kindness are essential to keeping Lincolnshire resilient.
