Storm Henk Flooding (update #7)

Update for Lincolnshire following unprecedented water levels at Torskey Lock and closure of Trent and Dunham Bridge

The water levels at Torksey Lock peaked at their highest recorded level of just over 7.4m at around 2.15pm yesterday.

Those levels are now receding with the last measurement being just over 7.2m. Water levels are expected to take up to a week to return to normal levels, but the situation is gradually improving there, and across the county.

Trent Bridge at Gainsborough was closed yesterday evening due to flooding, and was reopened this morning. Dunham Bridge remains closed due to flooding, for at least the next three days and expected to remain affected over the coming days.

The weather forecasts predict no significant rainfall over the next few days, but will continue to be monitored. The Environment Agency has had crews out for the past 24 hours continually monitoring the situation, and will remain out for the next several days walking waterways, using drones and monitoring data so that updates on flood warnings and road closures can be provided.

We are asking drivers to please follow directions on local signage, and do not, under any circumstances, drive through flood water where a road is closed. This is for your safety as there will be dangers you cannot see under the surface, and a very real risk that you could become trapped in your vehicle.

We would also like to ask drivers to take their time while travelling on the roads in county. Please remember to drive to the conditions, remember your stopping distances, and leave plenty of room between you and the vehicles ahead. Also allow plenty of time for travel to and from your destination.

Road closures remain in place across the county please check before you travel Storm Henk – roads closed – Lincolnshire County Council

If you have been flooded please follow our advice and guidance, and please ensure that you have reported this. These reports help us to understand where the issues are and focus our resources.

  • For internal flooding (inside a property) use Lincolnshire County Council’s dedicated 24-hour flood reporting line on 01522 782082.

Storm Henk (update #2)

Work is still ongoing to monitor the situation following Storm Henk.

An emergency has not been declared at this stage, but we continue to monitor water levels in four areas, including the South Forty Foot Drain, Branston Delph, Bourne Eau and Greatford areas.

We’re received three further reports of properties having been flooded inside and eight more having experienced flooding externally to gardens, sheds, and outbuildings. This has been in the Great Ponton, Thirlby and Greatford areas.

Whilst rainfall has stopped for the moment, and weather forecasts predict no significant rainfall, plans are being put in place to monitor at risk areas and areas that have had properties flooded.

We are still advising people to remain vigilant and be aware of what actions to take to protect their home and properties against flooding.

We would also like to ask drivers to take their time while travelling on the roads in county. There is lots of surface water on the roads as a result of heavy rain across parts of the county yesterday.

Please remember to drive to the conditions, remember your stopping distances, and leave plenty of room between you and the vehicles ahead. Also allow plenty of time for travel to and from your destination.

To report flooding, please use the following channels:

  • For internal flooding (inside a property), please use the Lincolnshire County Council’s dedicated 24-hour flood reporting line on 01522 782082.
  • For external flooding, please report on Fix My Street.

In an emergency, always call 999.

Storm Henk (update #1)

Several properties in Lincolnshire have been flooded because of Storm Henk, and work is ongoing to monitor the situation.

To date, 54 properties were reported as having been flooded inside and 78 had experienced flooding externally (to gardens, sheds, outbuildings.) This has been mainly in the south of the county, around the Bourne to Sleaford area, with some other sporadic areas of flooding around the county.

The LRF continues to work into the night monitoring water levels and areas potentially at risk, with particular attention being paid to Torksey Lock, Shuttleworth House, and the South Forty Foot Drain. Currently, there are no areas classed as high risk and the situation has not been declared as an emergency.

Rainfall has stopped for the moment and the weather forecast predicts little further rain in coming hours and days. The main risk over the next few days will mainly be surface water running off from nearby roads and fields. Plans are being put in place to help minimise any potential further impact.

People are still advised to remain vigilant and be aware of what actions to take to protect their home and properties against flooding. Information can be found on the LRF web pages about flooding here.
